Annual Aerial Device Inspection

NFPA 1910 Ch. 23

Annual inspections meet all NFPA requirements and manufacturer specifications.

Performance Tests Include:

  • drift, timing, and twist measurements

  • operational and load tests

  • interlocks

  • waterway flow and pressure test

Component Inspections Include:

  • mounting bolts — torque and visual verification

  • backlash and bearing clearance

  • ladder, torque box, cradle, suspension

  • hydraulic system

  • structural weldments

Analytical Tests:

  • hydraulic oil sample analysis

Inspection Time:

  • approximately 8-12 hours per unit, with full evaluation, functional testing, and same-day report delivery.

5-Year Aerial Device Inspection

NFPA 1910 Ch.23

Includes all components of the annual test, plus Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) as required by NFPA 1910.

When NDT is Required:

  • at least every 5 years

  • whenever visual inspection or load test indicates a potential structural or safety concern

  • when additional evaluation is needed to confirm continued operational safety

Inspection Duration:

  • NDT typically requires 5-8 hours per unit

  • the 5-year test includes the 8-12 hour annual inspection plus 5-8 hours for NDT, usually on a two-day schedule

Available NDT Services:

  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

  • Visual Testing (VT)

  • Hardness Testing

  • Base Rail Ultrasonic Thickness Readings

All accessible structural components are inspected using the appropriate NDT method.
